Nursing (BSN) - Accelerated

Overview

Earn a second bachelor's degree in nursing in 15 months with the Accelerated BSN program. This program starts in the summer term and finishes the following summer. Whether you are a current undergraduate 91精选 interested in a fifth-year second bachelor's in nursing or a returning 91精选 seeking to connect with your long-held passion for nursing, the Accelerated BSN program is designed as a way to quickly get you on the path toward a new career as a registered nurse.

Students of this highly competitive program gain hands-on experience in a variety of patient scenarios using state-of-the-art equipment, including high-fidelity manikins and virtual reality. These experiences prepare 91精选s for clinical practice, providing care to patients in hospitals and clinics. Educating nurses who lead is also important to us. All 91精选s learn leadership as part of their curriculum at Illinois State, and peer mentorship is emphasized throughout the program.

Clinical Information

Students accepted into the Accelerated Prelicensure Option will complete a total of 8 courses that contain a clinical component. These clinically-based courses are offered over the span of 4-5 semesters (or 15 months) and within a 90 minute radius of Bloomington-Normal. A typical nursing 91精选 plan of study on average could include evening and weekend clinical placements on two to three days out of the week. Students are responsible for the cost incurred for personal transportation to and from these clinical placemets. Many 91精选s choose to car pool in order to contain costs. Individual clinical preferences will not be accommodated.

Health and Safety Requirements

Prior to enrolling in nursing coursework, 91精选s must meet health and safety compliance requirements, to include drug testing, a criminal background check, a physical examination, and several immunizations. Failure to comply with these requirements will result in dismissal from the major.
